Daylight Saving

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

šŸ‚ Time to ā€œFall Backā€! šŸ

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 3. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night at bedtime! That means a little extra sleep for everyone (yay!). 😓

It might take a few days for little ones to adjust, so early bedtimes and extra snuggles can help make the time change easier. ā°šŸ’¤

Conferences are a great time to meet with your child’s teacher to talk about how your child is doing, their progress, and any questions you may have.

Scheduling a conference is optional (not required).

If you’d like to meet with your child’s teacher, keep an eye out for a conference request form that will be sent home in your child’s backpack.

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE

When to Keep Your Child Home from School

Deciding when your child is considered contagious depends on the illness.Ā Below are some guidelines to follow:

  • Colds: If symptoms are mild, he/she doesn’t need to be excluded from school.Ā If your child generally feels miserable, has a persistent cough, or nasal drainage is yellow or green, keep your child home and have evaluated by licensed medical provider if symptoms persist.

  • Fever: Temperature over 100.0 should stay at home until temperature is normal for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medications (ex. Tylenol, Advil).

  • Chicken Pox: Child must stay home until all lesions are crusted over. *Please notify the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with a vaccine preventable disease.

  • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): If eye is draining yellow discharge, is totally red or crusted over, keep home and take to licensed medical provider. Slight redness of the white or tearing when eye remains white may be due to allergies or an irritation and student is ok to be at school.

  • Draining wounds: If wound secretions are draining through bandage, keep home. A wound that is hot, red and painful is showing signs of an infection and should be seen by a licensed medical provider.

  • Draining ears: Keep home and take to a licensed medical provider if persists, may return when drainage has stopped.

  • Head Lice: If a student has head lice, the parent will be notified and will need to sign a waiver that the child has been treated for the child to return. Paperwork on cleaning and getting rid of lice and their eggs (nits) will be sent home with the student.

  • Rash:Ā Ā A student with a rash accompanied by a fever or that is spreading should be taken to a licensed medical provider.Ā The student may return to school when the rash is gone or a note from the licensed health care provider clears the student to return.

  • Ringworm: The child may attend school 24 hours after treatment has started along with a note clearing the student to return to school. Lesions should be covered with clothing or bandages while the student is at school.

  • Stomach ā€œFluā€:Ā Child needs to stay home if vomiting or having diarrhea.Ā The child may return to school 24 hours after symptoms have cleared.

  • Strep Throat: If diagnosed by the licensed medical provider, child must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.

A Note about Vision and Hearing Screening:

Every year we attempt to do vision and hearing screening on all students that attend Keewaydin Discover Center. During the month of November, I plan to start screening students.

We use a vision screener camera and a hearing screening device. These screening devices are quick and useful for students that have difficulty with communication, but they are not diagnostic. Kids that do not pass the screening should follow up with a medical provider. Please be aware that you will receive a notice if your student does not pass vision or hearing screening.

Please call the School Nurse if you have any further questions or concerns. Amanda Folk, BSN-RN 509-222-6016

Fall clothing

Brrr… Fall is in the Air!

The days are getting chilly and the leaves are starting to fall. It must be that time of year again!

Please help your little one stay warm and comfy by sending them to school with a cozy coat, hat, and gloves. We love playing and learning outside, even when it’s cool out!

Don’t forget to write your child’s name on their items so they don’t get lost in the coat pile.

Thank you for helping our students stay snug and ready for fun!
