Update on SNAP Benefits and Food Support for Families
We have received questions about how the district’s free breakfast and lunch programs relate to recent changes in federal food assistance. We want to reassure you that there is no impact at this time on Kennewick School District’s free school meal program. All students will continue to receive free access to breakfast and lunch at school as planned.
The current federal government shutdown is affecting SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, and SNAP benefits are expected to pause starting November 1. We know many families rely on SNAP, and more than half of SNAP participants are in households with children.
While school meals will continue without interruption, we understand families may need support at home. Washington State and local community partners are working to support families during this time.
